Senior Homestead Tax Exemption

The senior homestead exemption is a credit on property taxes available to those 65 and older that live in their homes and qualify.

To qualify for the senior and disabled persons homestead exemption of $25,000, a homeowner must:

  • Own and live in the property as of January 1 of the year of the application
  • Be 65 or Older, or be totally and permanently disabled as certified by a licensed physician / psychologist or a letter from an authorized agent
  • Be the surviving spouse of a person who was receiving the homestead exemption at the time of death
  • Have a Modified Adjusted Gross Income (MAGI) of less than $34,600 (as of 2022)
