Cleveland Heights Down Payment Assistance Program

In an agreement with the City of Cleveland Heights, Home Repair Resource Center now facilitates applications for the City’s Down Payment Assistance Program.

The program provides up to $10,000 for property limit of $166,000 for single family home.

Applicants must also meet the following requirements

  1. Receive certification of completion of pre-purchase and home maintenance counseling from a H.U.D. approved agency.
  2. Contribute a minimum of 3.50% of the sales price towards the home purchase (gift funds also eligible).
  3. Receive approval and first mortgage commitment for the purchase of the home from a mortgage lender.

 

The Property Must Be Inspected for Code Violations and Defective Paint

  • The property must be occupied by the seller or vacant for a minimum of 90 days.
  • Defective paint issues must be satisfied prior to application and initial inspection by the City of Cleveland Heights.
  • Health and safety code violations must be satisfied before the owner can receive approval to occupy the home.

Fill out the application form by downloading the PDF below and the lender’s checklist. Take the forms to your lender. The buyer’s first-mortgage lender will submit the completed forms to HRRC for processing.

CHN Housing Capital

CHN Housing Capital will provide access to capital for low-income homebuyers in communities in Cleveland and Cuyahoga County. CHN Housing Capital offers two down payment assistance programs: The Believe Mortgage and Cuyahoga County Down Payment Assistance Program.

The Believe Mortgage

Low down payment first mortgages are available for homebuyers in Cuyahoga and Lorain counties.

  • There are no first time homebuyer or income restrictions and no monthly Private Mortgage Insurance.
  • Buyers with lower credit scores are considered.
  • Buyers are also eligible for a second mortgage in the form of a home repair loan at the time they receive the Believe Mortgage.
  • Must complete first-time homebuyer classes prior to closing.

 

Down Payment Assistance Program

Eligible homebuyers can receive down payment assistance in the amount of 10% of the purchase price up to $16,600 whose income is in the low to moderate range.

  • Homebuyer will be responsible for a minimum 3% contribution towards the purchase.
  • Homebuyer must be at or below 80% of area median income.
  • Homebuyer must complete homeownership classes as a condition of closing their loan.
  • Homebuyers must not have owned a home in the past three years.
